“Graphic designers create the visual presentation and design of goods, from
markers to detergent boxes, from album covers to dog food cans”
(The Princeton Review Guide to Your Career.)

Graphic artists, or graphic designers are the bases of the graphic world. It is their designs that are sent to layout artists and then to the printers and then onto the outside world on cd covers, cereal boxes, billboards, posters, and basically anything that has to do with a visual representation.

Designers – people with a desire to create. They combine practical knowledge with artistic ability to turn abstract ideas into formal designs for the clothes that we wear, the living and office space that we inhabit, and the merchandise that we buy. Designers usually specialize in a particular area of design, such as automobiles, clothing, furniture, home appliances, industrial equipment, interiors of homes or office buildings, movie and theater sets, packaging, or floral arrangements.

Visual artists - create art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. They use a variety of methods-painting, sculpting, or illustration-and an assortment of materials, including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, pencils, pen and ink, plaster, clay, and computers. Visual artists’ works may be realistic, stylized, or abstract and may depict objects, people, nature, or events.

Fine artists – create art to satisfy their own need for self-expression.

Illustrators and graphic designers – put their artistic skills at the service of commercial clients, such as major corporations; retail stores; and advertising, design, and publishing firms.

Sculptors – design three-dimensional art works-either by molding and joining materials such

The following is a summary report, for module 334IS, Internet Applications, and assignment one. It attempts to explain how the site design and implementation was undertaken.
As designers, we have to have an idea of who our target audience is and we need to design our site accordingly as well as be aware of the technology they are likely to be using. Designers can’t control what their pages look like all the time, but the sign of a good site is that it will perform well on different platforms and browsers, designers should invest time to ensure this.
Having undertaken a little research into the Governments “Think!” campaign it became apparent that this site, on road safety issues should aim to target drivers, and road users, as car passengers would also find it useful to view the material contained in the site, such as the ‘rear seat belt’ issues. It was concluded that the site would have to be fairly universal in its style and layout as the people it would be aimed at could be old, middle aged or young drivers, and maybe even young children as they are often the rear seat passengers, so it would be useful for them to view the issues involved when not wearing a rear seat belt.

Process of Creating a Web Page
In the Internet age of today, it seems like everyone has a web site on the Internet. I use the Internet almost every day, and I wonder, how are all of these sites built? There are millions and millions of sites that have all been made using this process. Creating a web site is not as hard as it appears. The steps to creating, publishing, and maintaining a web site are simple if followed correctly. An Internet web site can be created through registering a domain name, purchasing the appropriate software, actual creation and design of the site, implementing security features, publishing the site, and maintaining and updating the site as necessary.
The creation of a web site begins with getting a space on the Internet to display the production. Reserving a space on the Internet can be compared to renting an apartment: paying rent, utilities, and paying a security deposit are required for the space. Acquisition of the space can occur several different ways. Web sites such as www.register.com offer web page space on the Internet for the fairly inexpensive price of thirty-five dollars for a one year agreement. Registering for this space is very similar to a lease agreement that would be signed field of graphic design.

Almost everywhere we look, visual images are competing for our attention, entertaining us, or trying to persuade. Visual artists create art to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas through painting, sculpting, or illustration. Illustrators and graphic designers are practical artists who put their talents at the service of commercial clients. Clients include major corporations; retail stores; and advertising, design, and publishing firms. Graphic artists convey a message or create an effect by visual means, using illustration, typography and/or photography (CC). This career field welcomes originality and creativity with open arms, letting the artists further explore their imagination.

Graphic designers are not primarily fine artists, although they may be highly skilled at drawing or painting, most designs commissioned to graphic designers involve both artwork and copy. Thus, the designer must not only be familiar with the wide range of art media and styles, but he or she must also be familiar with a wide range of typefaces and know how to manipulate them for the right effect. Because design tends to change in a similar way to fashion, graphic designers have to be up-to-date.

“Graphic Design is purposeful, informational, and a visual language”. Everything in the world is affected by graphic design. Computers revolutionized graphic design, therefore, increasing its impact in all walks of life.
The influences of design are reflected in many different areas. In commercial advertising, graphic design is used often to express the products ideas and purposes. It also gives a sense of interest and wonder. When quality graphic designs are produced, they are appealing to the eye and lets things that couldn’t be done in real life be done. For instance, if you are shooting a movie and you want something to fly, such as in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, all people have to do to make it look realistic is computerize the image and graphically produce the image of flying. Without graphic design, everything would be very bland and boring. From the way we dress, to the way things are made, graphic design takes place in one point or another.

THE ROLE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN IN WEB DESIGN

The World Wide Web has become an integral part of many organizations, and groups as diverse as Coca-Cola, the United States government, and high school students have sites that bring their messages to the world. In the years that the Web has become popular, Web design has gained in popularity, as well. Most users can quickly name sites that they like and don’t like as well as sites that are easy to use. However, most users do not recognize that the difference between those sites is the application of graphic design principles. This research considers the role of graphic design in Web design, including the difference between the two, how graphic design can enhance the image of the Web site, and the outlook for the role of graphic design in Web design.
When the Web first began gaining popularity, there were some who maintained that effective Web design was simply effective graphic design brought to the computer screen. On-line Web pages were not treated differently than on line documents or even printed documents. While it is certainly true that Web sites need strong graphic design elements to be successful, Web design extends beyond just the visual presentation of information. The data that is displayed and entered on the Web site must be processed by databases and applications in the “back office” of the organization, and these processes must link seamlessly to the Web site.
